Afforestation and drainage channels in Estonia

By January 2, 2019 No Comments

With a forest share of just over 50% of the total area, Estonia is one of the most forested countries in Europe. With a high proportion of marshland – around 20% of the forest area is affected – the drainage of the forests is particularly important.

For this reason we have rehabilitated the old ditch system in the WWForest Management forests on an area of about 700 hectares. This is the best basis for healthy growth in our forests. To ensure that we remain true to our claim of felling less than the annual growth in timber, we have again planted 20,000 new trees in the first half of 2018.
